The mission of The Gender Equity Center, also known as The GEC, is to support students’ exploration of gender. Through the

education of current events, stereotypes, and cultural influences, The GEC empowers students to challenge inequity and embrace

social justice. As part of Cal Poly's Cross Cultural Centers, The GEC contributes to the University’s commitment to diversity for a

more inclusive and welcoming campus. This year, The Gender Equity Center, with help from Cal Poly Safer, took part in Campus

Rising-The V-Day Movement's 2014 spotlight campaign whose goal is to raise awareness and to end sexual assault on college and

university campuses.

The Vagina Monologues has been hosted by the Gender Equity Center at Cal Poly since 2003. Each year, showgoers can participate in

opportunity drawings, get to know those employed by organizations involved with The Vagina Monologues, enjoy memorabilia, or

purchase souvenirs. 2014 was the first year that community members participated in an art gallery at the show.

Opportunity Drawings

This year, we will be offering opportunity drawings, wherein showgoers will have the chance to win various gift baskets, including

items from some of our gracious donors. These baskets will feature gift cards to local restaurants and other local businesses, and

credits for wine tasting and horseback riding, and more!

Resource Fair

There will also be a resource fair, which include Planned Parenthood, The Center, RISE, and many other community organizations,.

This year, the resource fair will be joined for the first time by RISE, formerly known two organizations known as North County

Women's Shelter & Sexual Assault Recovery & Prevention Center (SARP).

Art Gallery

For the first time in The Vagina Monologues history at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo community members and Cal Poly students will

have the opportunity to enter their personal compositions to our art gallery which will feature pieces that celebrate the experiences,

expressions, and lives of women.
