Best Sports Photograph ( Community Colleges)Back

  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: El Camino College
Entry Title: Looking for the target
    Entry Credit: Greg Fontanilla
Judge Comment: First place. Perfect separation of subject, all other players draw the eye toward the QB’s stance, action and emotion. Night photos are tough, especially for a community college photog because they usually require the light and level of lens that is just unavailable at that level, but your photo shows an excellent grasp of sports photography that can and will be improved upon.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Santa Ana College
Entry Title: Lasers Blow Up Dons in Doubleheader
    Entry Credit: Dorian Zavala
Judge Comment: My second favorite photo. Perfect focus on subject and beautiful separation between subject, foreground, background and ball. I would like the photo to include the opposing team’s batter as the subject makes it look like they’re playing catch rather than a competitive game, but that’s the only nitpick I have. Great second place.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: Bakersfield College
Entry Title: BC suffers loss during homecoming
    Entry Credit: Justin White
Judge Comment: Fantastic photo, great subject, emotion and action. The only things I’d improve upon is the focus on the subject and the separation from the player in the midground. Excellent photo!
  • Competition Comment: Excellent entries from across the community college offerings. These all show that great photography can come even when limitations are placed on the photog. I’m looking forward to judging their photos in the future at the community, 4-year college and beyond!
