  • Place Name: First Place
Contestant Name: University of California, Los Angeles
Entry Title: Black Lives Matter activists protest for more than 23 days in front of mayor’s home
Entry Credit: Finn Chitwood, Chelsea Westman
Judge Comment: Great story subject matter and visuals. Good range of photos and moments captured. To further strengthen and help showcase length of calendar days of assignment, perhaps showcase what it was like at sunrise, sunset, evening, and even the quiet after the protesting on the street.
  • Place Name: Second Place
    Contestant Name: Chico State University
Entry Title: Conquering anxiety amongst the redwoods
    Entry Credit: Ava Norgrove
Judge Comment: Great variety in images within the photo story, both in range and perspectives. Great relational imagery. To further strengthen: Consider tightening the edit to eliminate the extraneous deviation to the beach since the focus was more on the redwoods.
  • Place Name: Third Place
Contestant Name: San Diego State University
Entry Title: Aztec Nights Event : Dragstravaganza
    Entry Credit: Brittany Cruz-Fejeran
Judge Comment: Great variety in imagery both on and off stage. To further strengthen: consider imagery showcasing what it's like gearing up for the event and winding down from the event.
  • Competition Comment: Overall there were many great emotional moments captured. Both visually colorful and pleasing to look moments at and harder to grapple with subject matters chosen to showcase. Remember within your photo stories to showcase a good variety of perspectives, and ranges of compositions. Find the best light and angles that help magnify and compliment your subject matters to help create a more effective mood within your photo series. Tighten your edits to more effectively tell the story of what it going on, or to get your point across to your audience.
