  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: Mills College
Entry Title: Illustration for "Staff Editorial: Objectifying the Subject"
    Entry Credit: Jo Moses
Judge Comment: The simplicity of this illustration is what makes it exceptional, reminiscent of the adage "If it bleeds, it leads," which so concisely illustrates the written piece. Contributing to the illustration's effectiveness is the fact that it reads well on all screen sizes (including mobile devices) and it melds the print newspaper heyday of the 1950's with modern sentiments - a common public opinion that journalists sensationalize their subjects.
  • Place Name: Second Place
Contestant Name: San Joaquin Delta College
Entry Title: Filling in the blanks
    Entry Credit: Hannah Workman
Judge Comment: A more dynamic or visual backdrop could have really improved this illustration, but the concept is strong and it is well executed. Amid virtual learning and empty learning environments, this is an effective visualization.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: Santa Ana College
Entry Title: The new Superman is bisexual, but it shouldn’t be big news
    Entry Credit: Eduardo Velasquez
Judge Comment: The artwork itself is done very well. The Superman element is abundantly clear but incorporating elements that tie in the bisexual aspect would make it much more effective.
