Place Name: First Place Contestant Name: University of California, Los Angeles Entry Title: Daily Bruin Entry Credit: Thomas Gerald, Kristie-Valerie Hoang, Mattie Sanseverino, Tommy Vo Tran, Shirley Yao Judge Comment: An excellent website. The Daily Bruin features well-reported stories posted daily, timely interactives and a guide to apartments, classes and professors. Far and away the best entry.
Place Name: Second Place Contestant Name: UC Berkeley Entry Title: dailycal.org Entry Credit: Jasper Sundeen, Connor Lin, Mallika Seshadri, Jocelyn Huang Judge Comment: I loved many of the stories on The Daily Californian's site, including Cameron Fozi and Veronica Roseborough's interactive guide to rent increases. Editors at the Daily Cal post stories frequently and ensure that articles are well-written with excellent original photos. I also appreciated the efforts to monetize the site through advertising, reader donations and newsletter subscriptions.
Place Name: Third Place Contestant Name: Cal Poly San Luis Obispo Entry Title: Best Newspaper website Entry Credit: Tessa Hughes, Sabrina Pascua, Cameryn Oakes, Stephanie Zappelli, Adam Birder Judge Comment: The hard-working reporters and editors at Mustang News put out a website full of timely and well-reported stories. I love the Covid-19 tracker on the right side of the desktop version of the website, and I appreciate the newspaper's efforts to integrate its website with other parts of Cal Poly's student media group.
Competition Comment: Many of the websites submitted for this category showcase the dedication of student journalists at California's universities, who work long hours for little or no pay to bring their classmates round-the-clock breaking news.
