Best Arts and Entertainment Story ( Community Colleges)Back

  • Place Name: First Place
    Contestant Name: Santa Ana College
Entry Title: Local record stores running strong amid pandemic
    Entry Credit: Gisselle Roldan
Judge Comment: This is a good story with a solid news hook. This had a couple of repeated words that looked like production errors. It also could have used a little more background on the vinyl resurgence to make it a stronger read.
  • Place Name: Second Place
Contestant Name: San Joaquin Delta College
Entry Title: Your how-to guide for Fall 2021 fashion
    Entry Credit: Jason Diez
Judge Comment: I love that this isn't a traditional narrative. In arts and entertainment you really have the opportunity to experiment with different ways to tell a story and this package with the photos and short text really worked well together. I would have liked to see more attribution in each of the outfit blocks -- only the "I'm Just Naturally Charming" one did this.
  • Place Name: Third Place
    Contestant Name: El Camino College
Entry Title: Holiday Extravaganza in-person performance to reunite three ECC choirs after COVID isolation
    Entry Credit: Kim McGill
Judge Comment: Great visual details in this story, but it needs to get to the nut graph faster.
  • Competition Comment: General notes: Pay attention to grammar and spelling. You want to get more voices into your stories, but don't be afraid to cut them if they say the same thing. Make sure you have an interesting lede and that the reader gets to the nut graph (the "so what") up high in your story.
