Behind the story: How Fitness Became Fun

When the link became available to look and put our top choices for the Intrepid our group was immediately drawn to Fearless Fitness before even really knowing what it was about. When receiving the story we wanted, our interview of the entrepreneurs of Fearless Fitness was soon approaching. Even though the interview would be done before I could finish the backgrounder, I researched key terms like “children’s fitness”, “women in business” and “fitness” in general. I found an article published to Mustang News a decade ago that detailed about how some students started a fitness company.

We used that article and a few others posted previously on the Intrepid to get inspiration on how to create our story. We also got inspiration from Madison Lewandowski’s website to learn more about what Fearless Fitness is and who the people are behind the project

Co-founders Madison Leqandowski and Sara Glaser have made major strides since starting their project was first created.  Recently, they even won first place at Cal Poly’s Innovation Quest on April 24 and received $15,000 to continue making improvements to the company.

“Working with this team, we can all trust each other,” Glaser said. “I feel like we’re all very passionate about this.”

Haylee Banta and Lauren Walike collaborated together to interview Lewandowski and Glaser

For Walike, the passion the co-founders had for their company and the mission behind it, made her in turn passionate to write a great story.

“I wanted to capture their passion in my story so that’s what I themed it around,” said Walike.

For the interactive portion of the story, Fauve Koontz received information about how Fearless Fitness came to be and created a timeline to show their history.

“I enjoyed working on the interactive rotation because I got to learn about the process of how Fearless Fitness was created.”

Finally, to create the video for the story, team member Haylee Banta used courtesy video given to her from the co-founders and clips from the interview to show how Fearless Fitness really works with the inclusion of video games and fitness to get children moving and having fun. While at times it was difficult, she couldn’t be happier with the finished product

“Working on the video was a lot of trial and ever,” said Banta. “I’ve never used Premiere po before but Youtube made it much easier to figure out.”

This story was a lot of fun to create as we were able to highlight the amazing work of Cal Poly students who have taught kids that fitness can be fun when given a screen and an open area to run around.
